Market bounced back smartly

After a subdued opening, the key benchmark indices geared up with momentum building up as most Asian stocks rose. Investors expect economic reforms will boost economic growth and corporate earnings over the medium term. However, concerns below-normal rains may hamper a nascent economic recovery. Bargain hunting triggered a recovery later.

On the sectoral front all indices gained. Metal stocks gained despite as LMEX, a gauge of six metals traded on the London Metal Exchange, fell 0.7% overnight. Auto stocks gained on bargain hunting. IT stocks gained as better than expected US jobs data underpinned hopes for a recovery in the world''s largest economy.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE, out of 2,529 stocks traded so far, 1,377 shares advanced while 1,069 shares declined. Nearly 83 shares are unchanged.

At 1.22PM, the BSE Sensex is trading higher by 142.97 points at 15,152.75 whereas NSE Nifty is up by 51.44 points at 4,489.10.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 66.86 points at 5,407.34 and Small cap is trading up by 63.94 points at 6,136.98.

Major gainers from the BSE Sensex pack are Tata Motors Ltd by 6.57% to Rs. 427.30 along with, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd surged 4.85% to Rs. 794.90, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd by 3.63% to Rs. 1,296.80, Bharti Airtel Ltd by 3.25% to Rs. 386.30, Hindustan Uniliver Ltd by 2.40% to Rs. 266.70, Reliance Industries Ltd by 1.90% to Rs. 2,024.00, Reliance Communication Ltd by 1.86% to Rs. 257.00, Tata Power Ltd by 1.74% to Rs. 1,273.10 and DLF Ltd by 1.38% to Rs. 367.85 among others.

Major losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are NTPC Ltd plunged 0.93% to Rs. 208.65, Housing Development Finance Co Ltd 0.70% to Rs. 2,312.20, Jaiprakash Associates Ltd plunged 0.40% to Rs. 213.30, Larsen & Toubro Ltd 0.32% to Rs. 1,433.90 and ITC Ltd by 0.25% to Rs. 233.40.

The BSE Auto is higher by 169.87 points or 3.26% at 5,380.14. Stocks gained are Tata Motors Ltd 6.57% to Rs. 427.30, Bharat Forge Ltd 5.10% to Rs. 228.90, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd 4.85% to Rs. 794.90, Bajaj Auto Ltd 4.60% to Rs. 1,118.90, Ashok Leylnd Ltd by 4.44% to Rs. 34.10, Communis India Ltd by 4.31% to Rs. 305.90 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd 3.63% to Rs. 1,296.80 among others.

Sterlite Industries India Ltd gained 0.51% to Rs. 635.20 after the company accelerated its bid for acquiring the operating assets of the US-based bankrupt copper miner Asarco LLC.

Consolidated Construction Consortium Ltd improved 1.86% to Rs. 246.05 after the company bagged an order worth Rs. 431 crore.

Tata Steel improved 1.40% to Rs. 462.40 on the company''s plans to raise funds through the issue of securities to reduce debt.

Petronet LNG Ltd zoomed 2.93% to Rs. 66.85 after the company signed a pact with ExxonMobil to source 1.5 million tons per annum of liquefied natural gas for 20 years from the proposed Gorgon LNG Project in Western Australia.

Tata Motors Ltd rose 6.57% to Rs. 427.30 on reports the company has secured a debt facility for its Jaguar and Land Rover operations.

BOC India Ltd rose 0.15% to Rs. 165.20 after the company signed a pact with JSL for installation of an air separation unit at JSL''s plant in Orissa on a hire basis.
